Hey all,

So everybody has reached a consensus on date/location for this. It is going to be June 1-3rd at UNCA!

Now. We can take care of logistics, housing, etc here on our end. We need to put together a couple of committees here really quickly. I am putting out a call (more of a plea really) for somebody to take over coordinating everything outside of the logistics of things. Please?! All the emails here are the people who responded to the original call for a second regional convention, so there you have it.

Hey everyone!

Much thanks to Asheville for offering to take care of all the logistics! What are the different tasks that need to be taking care of? We were thinking we will need:

1. media person to get the word out about the convention/make fliers, press releases
2. someone to reach out to other southern chapters and encourage them to come
3. fundraising
4. someone who will get input from all the southern chapters, to help put together a schedule and agenda, find a facilitator, etc, based on what all the chapters propose.

Does this work for folks? What is missing? Could we each volunteer to take up a particular task, and then make sure to touch base with each other frequently, either on this discussion list or on phone conferences?

Tuscaloosa would be happy to start getting proposals for workshops, process, etc. Does anyone have a complete or near-complete list of southern chapters and their contact info? Can those of you who are on this list start talking with your groups about what you want to accomplish at the convention, what you'd like to be on the agenda, what you want the process to look like in terms of decision-making, who should facilitate, and so forth. Hello friends,

The most important things are the internal logistics with the chapter hosting the convention. So jsut keep in mind along with housing you should try to look into food. We need people from Asheville to at least look into if they can get free or affordable food provided for convention attendees.

Talk to local businesses which are friendly to see if they would donate pizzas or something, or if they would offer a discount to people mentioning they are with the convention.

or, dumpster for good items and get some FNB style cooks.

Or, if it just wont work to get food provided, at least compile a list of what is around, where, price range, and if it is vegeterian or vegan friendly.

Help could of course be provided on these issues from others, so if anyone in Asheville needed help they could contact me.

Then, the most important issue will be reaching out to other chapters. We will need to make phone calls and actually speak with not jsut organizers but members from around teh south, inform them that there is this convention being planned, direct them to a website with more information, and ask if they plan on attending. Then a couple weeks later we need to call people back again and make sure they are attending, havent forgotten, or dont have any concerns we cna help figure out. We can get names and phone numbers from Tom Good, Brian Kelly, or Ali Van Doren. Then i would advise dividing the list up into sections and assigning it to various people so no one has to spend too much time on this or too much of their phone bill.

Also, I have attached a file of the Southern SDS contacts, there may be a few who have joined or started chapters since i made thsi list, but i am pretty certain it is a rather complete listing of those we will need to contact. You can download the attached file, let me know if you need anotehr file type, or read the names and emails below.
