Portland Out of Iraq!
As of August 2006, the cost of war to the City of Portland was more than $370 million. This money could have funded more than 18,000 4-year scholarships at public universities in Oregon, health insurance for nearly 223,000 Portland children, nearly 50,000 Head Start students for 1 year, 6000+ teachers for 1 year, or more than 3,000 housing units in Portland. It is time for the city of Portland to stop funding this war. Lewis & Clark SDS has joined the American Friends Service Committee and a slew of other organizations to get the Portland City Council to pass a resolution for full U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. You can sign the petition here. Check back soon for updates on upcoming events and actions.
