Truth in Recruitment Event
On Oct 28th we are having a counter-recruiting event at the National guard recruiting station on Weybosset Street. We will then walk over to Kennedy plaze and provide scientific facts about the military and what benefits one would get by joining.

Symbol
I have been trying to think of a symbol that would represent what sds is about. I find that the fist does not encapsulate sds, in fact, i associate the fist with other movements already. In my search for something new I found the adinkra symbols that are common in West Africa. They are pretty cool looking. I found a symbol that represents transformation (a star with a wheel around it) and another one that represents democracy and unity (two crocodiles with shared stomachs). I combined these symbols to make this:

A New Year
Last year we set out a couple goals for this year to organize around, namely the creation of a strong progressive network and community and to press the Brown administration to enact the social choice fund. Information about both of these issues can be found here.
We are looking for help to build a truely democratic society. A democratic society would see the end of poverty, dehumanization (racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, prejudices against other cultures, anything that stereotypes people as less than human), discrimination, hatred, war, environmental destrustion, disempowerment, and the violation of human and civil rights. Now, you may be thinking, we have alot on our plate, but to put it in the words of The Port Huron Statment "If we appear to seek the unattainable, then let it be known that we do so to avoid the unimaginable."
To do this we need both well thought out critiques of our current situation and suggestions for ways to improve it. We need people who are willing to put their thoughts, ideas, principles, and convictions into practice. If you wish to see positive change in our world then you have found the right group. As the button says, There's a change gonna come.
